There are fictional heroes, and then there is Westley. When Cary Elwes looked up from that farmyard and said “As you wish” for the first time in 1987, an entire generation felt it in their chest — and never quite forgot it.
Cary Elwes is remembering Rob Reiner on what would have been his 79th birthday. Elwes, who starred in one of Reiner's most iconic films, The Princess Bride, took to Instagram on Friday, March 6 to honor the late filmmaker, who died in December 2025, three months before his 79th birthday.
