Until the maintenance group leader for Lockformer Co.’s Lisle plant smelled a chemical odor on the property in 1991, he believed previous spills of the metal degreaser used by his employer evaporated.

A high-ranking official of Lockformer Co. in Lisle testified Monday that company officials have known since 1985 that potentially dangerous chemical spills were occurring at its Ogden Avenue plant.
