In March, ”Goldilocks”, a loggerhead sea turtle, was found stranded with a large fishing hook in her throat, weak, and covered in epibiota. Epibiota is algae, barnacles, and other small marine life that attach to a turtle’s shell when they begin to move slow due to illness or injury. In healthy turtles regular swimming helps prevent this buildup. Some live photos of the Loggerhead hatchlings that have been coming in over the past week! 🐢🐢 Most of them came in from nest evaluations in the Middle Keys and the one was found in an Upper Keys swimming pool. 🌴 72 hours after a nest hatches, Save a Turtle does a nest evaluation to determine how many eggs hatched.
