Navy’s OPVs will help patrol and secure Australia’s maritime border alongside the evolved Cape class patrol boats The OPVs have a greater range and endurance than the Armidale class patrol boats, and can perform roles that previously required numerous vessels. They also have much better living quarters and amenities for Navy people.

A tropical low, referred to as 29U, is forecast to form in the Arafura Sea late today, before moving gradually west. The forecast currently shows 29U staying off the Australia coast, but it could get close enough to bring weather impacts to northern parts of the Northern Territory and Western Australia. 29U has a moderate chance of strengthening into a tropical cyclone from Friday into next week.
