A backdraft is a dangerous explosion that happens when a fire has been burning in a closed space (like a room or building) and has used up most of the oxygen. Here’s how it works step by step: ▶️The fire burns in an enclosed area and consumes most of the oxygen. ▶️The flames die down, but hot gases and smoke remain inside. ▶️When someone opens a door or window, fresh air suddenly enters. ▶️The oxygen mixes with the hot gases, and the fire reignites violently, causing an explosive burst of flames
