A balloon expulsion test is a simple and helpful pelvic floor muscle assessment. A small catheter with a deflated balloon goes into the rectum, it’s filled with saline, and then you’re asked to poop it out. This helps clinicians understand how well you can relax your pelvic floor muscles and how long it takes to “poop” the balloon out.
